During mid-September to mid-October join us at Coldstream Park for a Kokanee Salmon Outing! Students will learn about the life cycle of the kokanee salmon, as well as the important role they play in the ecosystem.
This program is offered in partnership with the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre.

The Stream Science program is a water quality monitoring program for local high school students. Get your students out of the classroom and to a local stream to gain a better understanding of the streams overall health.

Have your students get hands-on with the natural environment at with a Field Trip at the Nature Centre! During your visit at Allan Brooks Nature Centre, your class will experience four engaging activity stations of your choosing in a 2.5 hour session of outdoor and/or indoor fun!

Allan Brooks Nature Centre offers visits to your classroom from November through April. These programs have been designed to suit each grade level from pre-k to grade 7, are curriculum based and focus on the ecosystems and wildlife of the North Okanagan. Each consists of a presentation, an opportunity for students to see wildlife furs and bones, and participate in an activity (time allowing). The Pre-K and K-1 programs run approximately 45 minutes while programs for older students run 60 minutes.

Option 1: In-class presentation & online learning materials: $35 base fee + $145 per class
Option 2: In-class presentation only: $35 base fee + $75 per class
Option 3: Online Materials only: $95
Out of City Limits Rate: $50 base fee and travel fees will be charged at $0.60/km

ABNC can deliver up to a maximum of 4 presentations a day.
Pre-K: The Who’s Who of Wildlife
Bears and Beavers, and Cougars, oh my! Learn about animals that live in the North Okanagan, and get up close by looking at their furs and skulls.
Grade K/1: Getaway to the Grasslands
Join us on an imaginary field trip to a grassland! Watch it and the animals living there transform through the seasons. Don’t forget your sunscreen, snow pants, and umbrella!
Grade 2: Growing up in the Grasslands
From cute and cuddly to naked and ugly, many baby animals are born in the grasslands in the spring. Learn why deer fawns and coyote pups look like their parents, but tadpoles and insect larvae do not.
Grade 3: Digging for a Living
Learn all about badgers and the diverse group of animals they interact with: predators, prey, hunting partners, and the many creatures that use their abandoned burrows as homes.
Grade 4: Nature Nocturnal
Whoooo’s awake? Learn how owls, coyotes, bats, and things that go bump in the night use all their senses to find their way in the dark.
Grade 5/6: How Birds Fly
Flight isn’t just about physics! Learn how birds’ internal and organ systems are amazingly adapted for life in the skies.
Grade 7: Survival of the Fittest in a Changing Climate
In an interactive scenario, explore how British Columbia’s plant and wildlife species will be challenged by climate change or how they might be adapted to survive and thrive.
